TECHNICAL TIPS
01
Pressurize the brake hose using the proper tool, open the bleeder screw, and remove the brake pads.
02
Inspect the brake caliper: sliding piston, guide pins, and rubber boots. If there is any sticking, carefully remove the components using the appropriate tools, inspect each part, and replace any that show irregularities. Lubricate the parts before reassembly.
03
Do not install new brake pads on damaged brake discs, such as discs that are out of specification, warped, glazed, or overheated (blue), or without resurfacing them. If resurfaced, ensure the minimum thickness specified by the manufacturer is respected.
04
Inspect the brake caliper: sliding piston, guide pins, and rubber boots. If there is any sticking, carefully remove the components using the proper tools, inspect them, and replace any faulty parts. Lubricate all components before reassembly.
05
When replacing brake discs, never use petroleum-based products for cleaning. Use only water and soap to remove the protective coating, then dry with compressed air.
06
Perform a thorough inspection of the entire brake system: hoses, master cylinder, wheel cylinder, brake booster, proportioning valve, etc.
07
Check the brake fluid level. If it is below the indicated mark, replace it.
IMPORTANT: Replace the brake fluid every 10,000 km or 12 months (whichever comes first), always using the type recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Never mix different types of brake fluid such as DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5, etc.
08
Install the new brake pads by retracting the caliper piston with the bleeder screw open, then close the bleeder screw.
09
Lightly press the brake pedal several times, up to approximately half of its travel. Repeat until the pedal becomes firm.
10
Brake system bleeding: press the brake pedal about four times to 3/4 of its travel, open the bleeder screw, and check for air bubbles through the bleed hose. Repeat the procedure until all air bubbles are eliminated, then close the bleeder screw. Perform this procedure on all wheels.
11
After completing the brake pad installation, ensure that the vehicle’s wheels rotate freely.
12
Advise the vehicle owner to perform proper brake pad bedding-in as described. During the first 200 km after pad replacement, brake moderately and carefully, as the disc and pad set will be in the bedding-in phase. Once bedding-in is complete, the system will respond normally. This process does not reduce braking efficiency, it ensures proper component seating and helps prevent future noise issues.
